Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan 2010

Last updated: 14th August 2010

We have just completed yet another extremely successful Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan. A lively weekend was had in the town of Rush, where many sessions and events were held.

On Thursday evening, at the Opening Ceremony at Rush Sailing Club, we were honoured to have His Excellency, Mr. Pat Binns, the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland, in attendance. This was a fitting tribute to, and a clear recognition of, the links between Canada and Rush, through the emigration of Chris Langan, a local piper, to Toronto, in the 1950's.

The Gala Concert, held on Friday night in the Millbank Theatre, was a treat for all, especially the proud parents of our young musicians and dancers, who practiced so hard over the last few months. Thanks also to the Millbank Theatre Committee for providing such a professional venue yet again for our concert. Special thanks goes to Dónal Hurley, Manager of the Millbank Theatre, and our Lighting Engineer for the night.

On Saturday afternoon, there was a great turnout for all our workshops, with lots of lively music and dancing in St. Joseph's Secondary School. At the end of the afternoon, we were treated to some music, song and dance from our tutors, which was very well received.

It must be acknowledged that none of the success of the Scoil Samhraidh Chris Langan 2010 would have happened had it not been for the dedicated team that are the Rinceoil Fingal Committee and their helpers, who have been planning and putting into action all the events that happened over the weekend. Well done to all and a well deserved rest is on the cards - for a little while anyway!!
Thanks, too, to all the parents, whose co-operation and support for Concert practices and performances has been most appreciated.
And finally, thanks to all the children and adults who participated so fully in any way over the weekend, whether in concert practices, performances or attendance at the workshops. This is what Rinceoil Fingal is about - participation, fun and learning traditional music and dance!!

By the way, if you have photos of the various events over the Scoil Samhraidh weekend, send them to info@rinceoilfingal.com, preferably in jpeg, in small format. We'd love to get them for our Photo Gallery. Be sure you have the permission of the people in the photos, especially if they are photos of children!
